The CrossWind consortium, a joint venture between Shell in the Netherlands and Eneco, has awarded Fugro a contract to deliver comprehensive geotechnical site investigation solutions to support development of the Hollandse Kust (noord) offshore wind farm. The site investigation solutions will comprise an unexploded ordnance (UXO) site clearance survey followed by a seabed cone penetration test (CPT) investigation.

THURN Group Orders SL40 Autonomous Survey Boat For Product Development

THURN Group (Norwich, UK) has purchased a new SL40 autonomous survey vessel from OceanAlpha (Hong Kong). The 32kg 1.6m vessel will be equipped with 40Ah of Lithium-Polymer batteries for up to 10 hour endurance at survey speeds, with waterjet propulsion, data and control telemetry, a video monitoring system, collision avoidance sensors, and USV mission planning software.

The project included deepwater pipeline surveys, inspection of subsea structures, and maintenance tasks using Fugro’s FCV3000 remotely operated vehicle (ROV), and the Edda Sun is now returning to the North Sea to continue its 2020 IRM programme.

Unmanned Survey Solutions (USS) was recently commissioned by Conwy County Borough Council to undertake a Multi-Beam Echo-Sounder (MBES) and mobile laser scan survey of Conwy quay wall, Conwy bridge, Conwy cob and Tal Y Cafn bridge structures located within Conwy River. As detailed by the Wales Coastal Monitoring Centre (WCMC), the purpose of the survey was to assess the scour extents at the structure’s foundations and to provide additional information on the above surface structure.

Fugro Wins NOAA Contract for Shoreline Mapping Services

Fugro has signed a 5-year Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract with the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide shoreline mapping services in support of the agency’s Coastal Mapping Program. Issued through NOAA’s National Geodetic Survey (NGS), this multi-year contract is NGS’s second consecutive award to Fugro for services such as the provision of aerial imagery, topobathymetric lidar, and shoreline feature compilation. NGS uses these data to update NOAA nautical charts, define US territorial limits, support coastal management activities and perform inundation modelling.

Fugro has partnered with the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Office of Ocean Exploration and Research (NOAA OER) to establish a new ‘opportunistic’ approach for mapping deepwater areas of the US Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). As Fugro’s survey vessels transit to project sites through NOAA-identified areas of interest, remote command and control technologies are used to acquire high-resolution mapping data with minimal crew onboard.

Four of the patents were issued domestically in the United States with an additional series pending for international markets. United States Patents 10,502,829 and 10,545,233 were specifically developed by 3D at Depth to address the challenges of offshore metrologies and measurements in relation to inertial and acoustic positioning systems. The new patents have a direct impact on customers’ survey campaigns in the offshore energy and maritime sectors where improving performance and reducing the carbon profile is a priority, without losing the ability to secure quality, reliable 3D data.

Fugro Awarded Aker Energy Contract for Pecan Field Surveys Offshore Ghana

Aker Energy has awarded Fugro a contract for geotechnical and geophysical survey services in relation to the Pecan field, offshore Ghana. The surveys will obtain critical seabed and sub-seabed information to facilitate the planning and emplacement of the Pecan subsea infrastructure and the floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) ship. “This project will build on the extensive experience that our vessels and staff have gained in Ghana and the wider West Africa region, and we look forward to using this knowledge to execute a safe and successful campaign,” said Jaco Stemmet, Fugro’s Director for Africa.
