In support of TenneT TSO B.V. and the Dutch government’s programme to increase offshore wind capacity by 2030, marine geoscience and offshore construction support service provider NextGeo has recently successfully completed the final reporting phase of the offshore route survey activities (non-UXO).

C-Innovation, LLC (C-I), an affiliate of Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) and its family of companies, has announced that C-Survey (C-S), an internal division of C-I, has brought its remote survey operations to the Gulf of Mexico for the first time. C-I is one of the first companies in the world to harness new and innovative remote survey technology successfully. Remote survey enables C-S to be fully operational 24/7 without personnel being onboard a vessel, eliminating associated travel time and expenses, offshore health and safety exposure, and the need for COVID-19 related measures.

RWE Renewables is currently developing the 1600MW Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) Södra Midsjöbanken located in the southern Baltic Sea. N-Sea, along with their partner Ocean Ecology, were contracted for late season provision of vessel, equipment, and personnel to perform a geophysical site survey and environmental baseline survey, as well as full data processing, sample analysis, interpretation, and reporting.

Teledyne Marine announces the delivery of three Teledyne Webb Slocum G3 Gliders to OceanPact, located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. OceanPact offers services for the study, protection, monitoring and sustainable use of the sea, coast, and marine resources for clients from various sectors including offshore energy, mining, telecommunications, ports, navigation, tourism, fishing and aquaculture. OceanPact Geosciences owns the largest private inventory of scientific instruments in the country and operates two world class Research Vessels, the RV Ocean Stalwart and the RV Seward Johnson, for multipurpose missions for deep ocean data acquisition.

A new round of funding has strengthened hydroacoustic technology specialist Subsea Europe Service GmbH’s commitment to taking autonomous technologies to the next level for marine survey applications. The investment boosts the company’s unique approach which focuses on the integration of new generation smart, A.I. and machine learning enabled hydroacoustic systems with diverse survey platforms including Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, Unmanned Surface Vessels, and crewed vessels as survey motherships.

Jan De Nul Group has ordered Maritime Robotic's well-proven and hybrid Mariner Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) as the first step towards unmanned and autonomous offshore survey operations. Named Beluga 01, this vessel will sail under the Luxembourg flag and be deployed for worldwide hydrographical and environmental surveys on marine and offshore construction projects. Jan De Nul is herewith the first dredging contractor to deploy an unmanned survey vehicle in marine and offshore conditions.

Fugro has secured a new contract with Energinet to undertake cable route surveys for the North Sea Energy Island project. The Energy Island will serve as an offshore power plant distributing up to 10 GW of offshore wind to Denmark and other neighbouring markets. Fugro will perform a combination of geophysical, geotechnical services and laboratory testing to provide valuable insight into the ground engineering challenges along the cable route from the Danish landfalls to the future artificial island location.

A 5m zero-carbon uncrewed boat was welcomed to Penzance last weekend (Saturday 27th/ Sunday 28th November) after 16 weeks in the Atlantic, where it has spent time at the edge of the continental shelf gathering scientific data on surface currents that govern Europe’s weather.

The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), a world-leading centre for polar science and operations, adds iXblue DriX Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) to its advanced robotic survey means. Deployed from polar research stations and from the British polar research ship RRS Sir David Attenborough, the DriX USV will help BAS conduct multi-disciplinary sciences such as surveying the impact of ocean currents on melting ice flow or mapping the seabed in the polar regions.

Fugro has secured two geotechnical site investigation contracts with Energinet for Denmark’s proposed Energy Island project. A global first, this purpose-built artificial island will be situated 80 km offshore in the North Sea and act as a hub connecting hundreds of surrounding wind turbines. Fugro will perform the preliminary geotechnical site investigation for the Energy Island and the adjacent offshore wind farm zone. The resulting Geo-data will be used to prepare an integrated geological and geotechnical soil model on which wind farm developers will base future tenders.

The Aberdeen headquartered global business, which is marking its tenth anniversary this year, has won a diverse spread of work across offshore energy sectors in Europe, Middle East, Asia Pacific and the Americas.

Survey provider UTEC, the lead brand for Acteon’s geo-services segment, has successfully deployed iXblue new subsea positioning technology on a world-class ultra-deep water field development project in Africa, with depths below 2,000m. iXblue sparse LBL solution, brings together Canopus intelligent transponders, Ramses transceivers, Inertial Navigation Systems, and Delph Subsea Positioning Software, to provide more informative positioning and spool piece metrology at multiple drill centers throughout the project execution.

Further expanding their robotic vehicle fleet, Geo Oceans has chosen the Saab Seaeye Falcon for its “reliable and hard wearing” reputation.

Seiche Ltd were selected by ACSM earlier this year to provide pre-survey modelling, underwater acoustic verification for two pieces of equipment (Sparker and SBP) to verify how they would affect marine mammals in the area along with continuous Acoustic and Visual Marine Mammal Mitigation services.

Marine technology specialist Subsea Europe Services and Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) innovator MARTAC have signed an extensive partnership agreement for cooperation on the delivery of unmanned and autonomous marine survey platforms. The partnership unites Florida-headquartered MARTAC’s extensive USV portfolio for defence, commercial and scientific applications with Subsea Europe Services’ hydroacoustic sensors, platforms and solutions expertise, which is available through its established European rental pool, sales and support channels.

Acteon, a marine energy and infrastructure services company, recently supported Siemens Gamesa, an industry-leading offshore wind turbine manufacturer and operations and maintenance provider, with a cable survey for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) pilot project. The scope of work provides an example of Acteon’s ongoing partnership with Siemens Gamesa and its growing balance of plant subsea services, which cover turbine foundation ROV inspection and surveys of export and array cables, and the seabed around each turbine foundation.

Last June 2021, Forssea completed the underwater survey of FLOATGEN, a floating wind turbine anchored 12nm offshore from Le Croisic coast, in Pays de la Loire, France, on the SEM-REV sea test site operated by the École Centrale de Nantes (ECN).
