Asso Group Expands its Fleet with the Offshore Construction Vessel “SBM Installer”

24.01.2022
The Asso Group is excited to announce the acquisition of the DP-3 DSV-CSV “SBM Installer”, following a purchase agreement with SBM Offshore. The vessel was taken over today by the Asso Group in Algeciras, Spain, and was renamed “Athena”, hoisting the Greek flag. Over the next days she will be re-classed with ABS and join the Group’s expanding fleet for primary use as a Trenching Support Vessel to sustain the Group’s heavy project backlog in the coming years.

Thanks to her unique twin-deck arrangement and a high-spec integrated set of anchor handling and towing winches, the Athena is an extremely flexible asset, ideally equipped for multi-purpose roles in the growing floating offshore wind market.

Following the acquisition of the Argo (ex. Polar King) in 2020, this additional high-spec vessel will significantly improve the Group’s capacity and capabilities in the constantly growing subsea cable installation market.

Alexandros Tziotakis, GM of Asso Group comments: “This further investment confirms once again the strong commitment of Asso towards its customers, in line with the strategic objectives of the group to deploy state of art assets and ensure the highest quality services. In the past 5 years we have invested more than 150 M€ to renew and expand the company’s fleet, and today we have completed another fundamental step for playing an active role towards the energy transition”
