Subsea 7 Awarded Krafla FEED Contract in Norway

Subsea 7 today announced the award of a contract by Equinor for the front-end engineering and design (FEED) study for the marine installations associated with the Krafla development project, offshore Norway. The awarded work is required to finalise the technical definition of the proposed development prior to Equinor and its partners making the final investment decision (FID) planned late 2022. The FEED study will begin immediately.

New AUV Obstacle Avoidance Pipeline Using ISS360 Sonar

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has pioneered a new obstacle avoidance pipeline for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) using the Impact Subsea ISS360 Imaging Sonar. The pipeline is intended to provide a reduced form factor, lower power requirement and a more cost effective solution than traditional approaches. The team successfully utilised the ISS360 Imaging Sonar integrated with a REMUS 100 AUV and demonstrated automatic obstacle avoidance capability with the new pipeline.

TerraSond to Support Vineyard Wind 1 Project in Massachusetts

TerraSond Ltd, a product and service line brand in Acteon’s geo-services segment, plans to invest in a new base in Massachusetts as part of its commitment to support the Vineyard Wind 1 project and wider US offshore wind developments. The company, which already has facilities in Alaska and Texas, has been confirmed as a preferred supplier for the subsea balance of plant inspection and survey services for the Vineyard Wind 1 wind farm, a joint venture between Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. The wind farm will be situated 15 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, and 35 miles from mainland Massachusetts. It will be the first major commercial-scale offshore wind farm in US waters.

RCMP and SEAMOR Deepest Recovery and Arctic First

Last month in a tragic workplace accident in Nunavut, Canada, a bulldozer broke through the ice and was submerged to a depth of 160 meters. A highly skilled team of Canadian Police underwater investigators responded with SEAMOR Marine’s Chinook ROV, recovering the victim’s body from inside the bulldozer on the Arctic Ocean floor. It was the Canadian Police’s deepest underwater recovery in history and first operational dive above the Arctic Circle.
