Transmark Subsea and Boxfish Research to Launch ARV-i at Ocean Business 21

In October, an entirely new class of underwater observation vehicle, the ARV-i, will be launched at Ocean Business 21. New Zealand-based Boxfish Research and Norwegian partner Transmark Subsea developed the autonomous underwater resident vehicle in a joint venture. The innovative technology enables continuous monitoring of underwater assets with application to a range of offshore industries, including energy, oil and gas, wind farms and aquaculture.

COSLPromoter to Drill for Statfjord Subsea Fields

Equinor has awarded COSL Offshore Management AS a contract to drill four wells on Statfjord Øst with the COSLPromoter rig from the spring of 2023. In addition, the rig has options for drilling five wells for Statfjord satellites afterwards.

Greensea Signs Contract with Ocean Infinity

Greensea Systems, creator of OPENSEA®, the universal open architecture software platform for the marine industry, entered into a contract with Ocean Infinity to provide OPENSEA as the open architecture platform that the Armada Dynamic Payloads Control (DPC) will be built upon. During the contract, Greensea and Ocean Infinity will collaborate on creating advanced robotic control and supervision capabilities for the Armada fleet’s payloads. The DPC will provide a framework for supervising and controlling an ROV system, including the deck gear and launch and recovery systems, by operators located at any of Ocean Infinity’s remote control centers. Through the OPENSEA API and OPENSEA SDK interfaces, Greensea, Ocean Infinity, or any of its partners can easily plug into the Armada DPC to add functionality to the fleet through the open architecture interfaces provided by OPENSEA.

Inside the Eye of the Storm: Saildrone Collects Live Video of Category 4 Hurricane

In a world first, a 23-foot Saildrone Explorer equipped with a specially designed “hurricane” wing has collected the first video footage of the extreme weather conditions inside a Category 4 hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean. The mission is a partnership between Saildrone and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Five vehicles were deployed to better understand the ocean processes that are occurring as hurricane intensity increases, which means collecting data immediately before and during a hurricane.
