Underwater custom cable for monitoring bradyseism in Pozzuoli Gulf

09.12.2015
Novacavi reports development and supply of a new custom cable for monitoring bradyseism phenomenon in Pozzuoli Gulf, near Naples, Italy.

That area has always been characterized by ground uplift and lowering phenomena of varying extent and, therefore, monitoring is a strategic measure for security. A new technique developed by a team of researchers from the Vesuvius Observatory of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology required a special cable from conception to completion, and this is what Novacavi was called in for. Novacavi has designed and manufactured a resilient data, signal and power armoured underwater cable connecting sea bottom with 3 surface buoys equipped with sensors. Due to its application alongside buoys’ anchor poles, this hybrid custom cable had to be ruggedized against hostile offshore environments while being able to fit in with natural sea movement.

“We are proud that our cable, integrated with the latest methods of analysis, may provide a useful tool to survey possible future volcanic crises in that area”, said the company.

Established in 1975 as a specialist cable manufacturer, Novacavi conceives, manufactures and provides in-house high quality bespoke cables matching customers’ exact requirements – even if small quantities are needed in a variety of demanding applications.
