Shortlist for OPITO Safety and Competence Awards 2017 announced

10.10.2017
Global skills and standards organisation OPITO has announced the shortlist for its Safety and Competence Awards 2017.

The awards will take place as part of the OPITO Safety and Competence Conference (OSCC) on the 8th November at the Royale Chulan, Kuala Lumpur, and winners will be chosen under two categories, New Thinking and New Generation.

Competing for the New Thinking award are ERGT, INSTEP and Wild Geese Group, while ETSDC, KMSTC and Wood Group Training will vie for the New Generation award.

As Australia’s national oil and gas training specialist, ERGT provides safety, survival and emergency response training for high risk industries. Malaysia based INSTEP is Petronas’ training institute serving clients from 15 countries, and Wild Geese Group provides the oil and gas and petrochemical industries with emergency management and training on operational scenarios.

ETSDC is a purpose-built training centre in Abu Dhabi, specialising in safety training for the oil and gas and marine industries. It is up against Ukraine based training and assessment services provider KMSTC and Wood Group Training, a global training consultancy focused on competency excellence.

OSCC will explore what the industry offers the next generation in terms of current support, how the learning and education experience is changing with regards to safety training; and the role technology will play in this process.

More than 300 delegates and 20 exhibitors are expected to attend next month’s event, where leaders from the oil and gas supply chain and world-renowned experts in safety and competency will participate in keynote sessions and panel debates highlighting the ways in which young people can be encouraged to embark on a career in oil and gas and discuss the issues around attraction and retention.

OPITO chief executive officer, John McDonald, said: “We’re looking forward to an excellent OSCC and the awards are a chance to celebrate safety and competency successes from around the world. The oil and gas industry is conducting admirable work and we’re looking forward to holding constructive discussions about the future of skills and standards.

“This year’s awards have been developed into two new categories to celebrate new technologies, methods and continuous development in the oil and gas industry, and recognise our findings that the expectations of the younger generation are impacting business approaches.”
