OCEANS'17 MTS/IEEE Anchorage Call for Abstracts Abstract Deadline Extended to March 20, 2017

08.03.2017
Dear MTS / IEEE OES Colleagues,

On September 18-21, 2017, the OCEANS North America conference will be hosted in Alaska for the first time ever! On behalf of the Marine Technology Society and the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society, the OCEANS ’17 Anchorage Local Organizing Committee (LOC) is honored to invite your participation in this prestigious event.

The venue for OCEANS'17 Anchorage is The Dena’ina Convention Center, a state-of-the-art facility located in the center of downtown Anchorage in close proximity to many great hotels, fine and casual dining, eclectic art galleries, and shopping. Within walking distance is the famous Tony Knowles Coastal Trail with its fantastic panoramic views of Cook Inlet and three majestic mountain ranges - Chugach, Alaska, and Talkeetna ranges. As we develop the full technical program in the coming months, we encourage you to submit a paper to share with the MTS/IEEE OES community and welcome your suggestions for workshops, tutorials or other activities. We look forward to your participation in the OCEAN'17 conference.

The OCEANS’17 Call for Abstracts is now open: Submission deadline extended to March 20, 2017.

Abstracts may be submitted in one of three categories:

Regular Technical Program: (this includes OCEANS'17 Topics and standard OCEANS offerings): Abstract submitted for review, paper presentation in technical session at the conference, and publication in IEEE Xplore.

Student Poster Competition: Abstract, paper, poster presentation, and publications in IEEE Xplore. Open to any full-time student in an accredited program. Selected applicants, based on abstract reviews, will have travel and registration expenses subsidized.

Special Sessions (this includes townhalls, workshops, and panels): Abstract and presentation required; papers optional. Should a special session chair wish to solicit papers for publication, this will be noted in the special session description and the session will be added to the OCEANS’17 Topics listing to facilitate the abstract peer review process. Participation for non-paper sessions is at the discretion of the Technical Program Committee and/or Special Session Chair. A Special Session weblink will be updated as this part of the Technical Program develops.

The abstract and student poster submission deadline has been extended to March 20, 2017.

The OCEANS'17 Topics align with the conference theme “Our Harsh and Fragile Ocean.” These topics, along with the standard core offerings of the OCEANS Technical Program, incorporate a local focus as well as address national and international interests in marine technologies, environment, and maritime domain activities.

The student poster session and competition offers an expense-paid opportunity for students to travel to an OCEANS conference to present their research. Students from colleges and universities around the world are eligible to compete to take part in this award.

We encourage participants to take a leadership role in the Technical Program. Please contact us directly with your proposals at TechnicalChair@oceans17mtsieeeanchorage.org if you are considering one or more of the following activities:

Organizing a Technical Session or Track. Please consider 'championing' a particular topic of interest to you and your colleagues, and coordinating multiple submissions into a Special Session or Track. Sessions are approximately 90 minutes, consisting of presentations of submitted, peer-reviewed abstracts (and submitted papers). However, you are welcome to work with the Technical Program Committee to have a format that might include longer featured talks, paper submissions (meeting same deadlines as regular technical program) or shorter presentations with a panel discussion, and the option of no paper. Common sessions may be organized into an announced Technical Track with a sub-theme to reflect specialized topics.

Organizing a Workshop or Tutorial.

Proposals for other less 'traditional' activities are welcome as well, such as demonstrations, government listening sessions, IGNITE talk sessions, social/networking opportunities, and professional field trips. Feel free to suggest these and other activities that you would like to see (and help organize!).

PLEASE make sure we know your availability to be a Session Chair and Abstract reviewer.

On behalf of the entire Anchorage Local Organizing Committee we look forward to working with you to make this a successful and memorable event. See you in Alaska in September 2017!
