First Aerial Drone-dipping Sensors Take off with Valeport

A cutting-edge new system for autonomous airborne hydrographic survey has been launched by THURN Group. The THURN QuickDip TM system of data collection uses aerial drones to carry Valeport sensors on pre-planned survey routes to deliver an efficient and repeatable method of gathering highly accurate survey data from inaccessible or dangerous waters.

THURN Group Orders SL40 Autonomous Survey Boat For Product Development

THURN Group (Norwich, UK) has purchased a new SL40 autonomous survey vessel from OceanAlpha (Hong Kong). The 32kg 1.6m vessel will be equipped with 40Ah of Lithium-Polymer batteries for up to 10 hour endurance at survey speeds, with waterjet propulsion, data and control telemetry, a video monitoring system, collision avoidance sensors, and USV mission planning software.

THURN Group (Norwich, UK) is excited to announce the purchase of a third generation SBG Ellipse-D inertial navigation system (INS). The INS will be placed with THURN’s Marine Robotics and Autonomy Product Development team, based in the Acle office on the edge of the Norfolk Broads. The SBG system will be a key component in the further development of THURN’s range of rotocopter-drone and USV-carried integrated survey systems for nearshore, port, river and lake applications.
