Grove Academy win 2023 MATE Scotland ROV at RGU

A team of budding engineers from Grove Academy in Dundee have taken the top prize at the MATE Scotland ROV competition. The pupils were among five secondary school teams from around Scotland who faced off at Robert Gordon University (RGU) to put their robots through a series of underwater missions for a place in the World Championships in USA.

Podium place for Bulgin connectors in international school ROV competition

A school robotics team sponsored by rugged connector and component manufacturer Bulgin won third place overall in the 2019 MATE (Marine Advanced Technology Education) International ROV competition, with connectors from Bulgin featured in the design. Among the 24 other schools that qualified in the Explorer age group final, a California-based high school’s robotics team had decided to use Bulgin’s PX0413/03P rear panel mount connectors in their design.

Rugged connector and component manufacturer Bulgin has announced its involvement in the 18th annual MATE (Marine Advanced Technology Education) International ROV competition taking place this month. Bulgin will be sponsoring the finals, which will be held from June 20-22, at the Kingsport Aquatic Center and MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Pupils from All Saints Catholic High School victorious in Subsea UK’s STEM Challenge

A team of pupils from All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield have been crowned champions of the Subsea UK 2019 STEM Challenge, which saw five teams from across the UK compete to design an ROV to collect plastic from the sea.

Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) - ROV Competition - Mentors Wanted

Two secondary schools local to Aberdeen, (Culsh and Inverurie) are each seeking a mentor to assist their respective teams in the MATE international robotics competition (Marine Advanced Technology Education). The competition is stewarded in Scotland by Robert Gordon University. A mentor (not necessarily a technologist) would offer guidance to a student team to refine clear thinking, offer suggestions where appropriate and of course offer encouragement in building and developing their entry. It is suggested an initial visit and 1 or 2 hours per month, but essentially be available by phone or email.

North east schools put in strong performance at international ROV comp

Two north-east schools have performed strongly in an international underwater robotics competition, finishing in the top 20 teams from across the globe. The teams, from Mintlaw Academy and Robert Gordon’s College, competed in the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Centre’s 2016 ROV international final in the United States, which took place at the end of June.

MATE Center Announces Winners of 2015 International ROV Competition

Monterey, California — Two underwater robots, known as remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) – and the teams that built, designed, and operated them – rose above the rest at last month’s Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center’s International Student ROV Competition. Jesuit High School of Carmichael, California won first place in the Explorer (advanced) class for the third year in a row, while AMNO & CO, a home school team from Seattle, Washington, took the first-place honor in the Ranger (intermediate) class.
