Scientists at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) have acquired a second Saab Seaeye Falcon underwater robot. The Seaeye Falcon is used to conduct surveys of marine fish and invertebrates in Washington’s Puget Sound, where some rockfish populations were fished to levels that threatened extinction.

Fugro has completed its first fully remote offshore survey inspection in the North Sea for energy company TAQA using one of its Blue Essence® uncrewed surface vessels (USV) with Blue Volta® electric remotely operated vehicle (eROV).

Teledyne Marine announces selling and delivering three Webb Slocum gliders to the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ). NIOZ conducts multidisciplinary applied marine research to address major scientific questions about our oceans and seas. After completing a competitive tender procedure, NIOZ acquired three Teledyne Webb Research G3 Slocum gliders. NIOZ Scientists, engineers, and ship technicians recently underwent operational and maintenance training on the systems with field support staff from Teledyne Webb Research and the UK’s National Oceanographic Center (NOC), which are Teledyne’s European Slocum Service Center. This training was conducted in Spain at SOCIB facilities in preparation for the glider science project to be undertaken initially by the RV Pelagia in the North Sea in the spring of 2023.

Coastal Workboats has announced a new partnership with Scottish Search and Rescue technology innovator, Zelim. Metal was recently cut for Zelim’s first ‘Guardian Class’ Fast Rescue Craft vessel at Coastal Workboats’ Devon yard.

Norwegian Offshore Rental has added a Webtool portable emergency cutter to its range of rental equipment. Easily deployed on deck, and operated remotely, the cutter will provide an instant cut of softlines used for towing or umbilicals used in chemical injection systems in the event the vessel gets into difficulties.

The first contract - in partnership with Aker Solutions do Brasil - has been awarded by Total Energies, for the LAPA Southwest (LAPA SW) Development Project, a deepwater oil field in the Santos Basin in the South Atlantic, 270 kilometres off the coast of São Paulo, in Brazil.

Exail, formerly iXblue, recently took part in the Digital Horizon Unmanned & Artificial Intelligence Exercise in Bahrain, organized by the US Navy. The U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet held the three-week exercise in December to test new unmanned technologies, as part of its plans to establish the world’s first Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) fleet of one hundred drones in the Gulf by the end of the summer.

Havfram Subsea, the global marine construction contractor, is reclaiming the Ocean Installer brand. Havfram's subsea business was known as Ocean Installer from the company's inception in 2011, with the 2020 name change reflecting its diversification into the offshore wind industry. The relaunch follows last year's announcement of the sale of Havfram's wind business lines.

The UK is at the forefront of a global shift to using high-tech robots to explore the ocean. The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) BIO-Carbon programme is investigating how marine life stores carbon dioxide (CO2).

Nauticus Robotics, a developer of ocean robots, autonomy software, and services to the marine industries, today announced the initiation of its operations in Norway and the United Kingdom, beginning the Company’s international expansion strategy for 2023 and beyond.

Fugro has received a sizeable contract for the Kelidang Cluster gas field development project from Petronas Carigali (PC) Brunei. Fugro will perform various site characterisation surveys to support the front-end engineering design for offshore production facilities and the pipelines to prospective buyers onshore. Geotechnical and geophysical data will be acquired using amongst others autonomous underwater vehicles and a seafloor geotechnical drill. The majority of the work will be executed during 2023 in different phases.
