Equinor and BP Sign Agreement to Transform South Brooklyn Marine Terminal into Offshore Wind Hub

New York, NY—Equinor, and its partner bp, today announced an agreement to turn the storied South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SBMT) complex in Brooklyn, New York into a major regional hub for offshore wind. Under the agreement, the terminal will transform into a world-class offshore wind port capable of staging and assembling the largest, most sophisticated offshore wind technology components for the Empire Wind and Beacon Wind projects and for the growing U.S. offshore industry on the East Coast.

Decision by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is a major step in delivering the UK’s ambition of the first net zero industrial cluster by 2040. A collaboration between Northern Endurance Partnership, Net Zero Teesside and Zero Carbon Humber, the East Coast Cluster aims to remove nearly 50% of all UK Industrial cluster CO2 emissions. By deploying CCUS across the Humber and Teesside, the East Coast Cluster aims to create and support an average of 25,000 jobs per year between 2023 and 2050.

COSLPromoter to Drill for Statfjord Subsea Fields

Equinor has awarded COSL Offshore Management AS a contract to drill four wells on Statfjord Øst with the COSLPromoter rig from the spring of 2023. In addition, the rig has options for drilling five wells for Statfjord satellites afterwards.

TechnipFMC Celebrates it’s 1300th Subsea tree from Dunfermline Campus

The Dunfermline, U.K. Campus of TechnipFMC celebrated reaching a momentous milestone: the completion of its 1300th subsea tree (XT). Since its opening in 1974, the facility has delivered XTs to 34 customers in 21 countries. One third of the deliveries have been for Equinor, with the 1300th XT going to the Snorre project offshore Norway.

Offshore wind: New Ocean Grid project in the North Sea

The Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry, Iselin Nybø, announced today that the Ocean Grid project will get financial support of 82.7 million NOK, through the Green Platform scheme. The project will develop new technology, knowledge and solutions to enable a profitable development of offshore wind on the Norwegian continental shelf. It will look particularly at the way offshore wind will be connected to the grid. The work will touch on both bottom-fixed and floating wind farms, and will in the long term enable the creation of green jobs and increased export revenues.

Giving Vigdis a Boost

A pump on the seabed gives the Vigdis oil field in the North Sea a boost that increases production by around 16 million barrels. The Vigdis subsea field has produced oil via the Snorre field for 24 years. When the field came on stream in 1997, it was expected to produce 200 million barrels. So far, it has produced twice as much, and based on new estimates the recoverable resources are 475 million barrels.

Maersk Drilling Secures Extended Well Intervention Scope for Low-emission Rig

Equinor Energy AS has exercised an option to add additional well intervention work to the previously agreed work scope for the low-emission jack-up rig Maersk Intrepid at the Martin Linge field offshore Norway. The added well intervention scope has a firm duration of 31 days, which means that the rig is now contracted until February 2022. The firm value of the contract extension is approximately USD 10.5m, including integrated services but excluding potential performance bonuses.

Aker Solutions Delivers Johan Sverdrup Platform Jacket on Schedule

Today Aker Solutions delivers yet another steel substructure for the largest industry project ever in Norway, the Johan Sverdrup field. Previously, the company has delivered three platform jackets for phase 1. With this jacket for phase 2 of the project, four out of a total of five jackets have been built and delivered from Aker Solutions’ yard in Verdal, Norway. All platform substructures have been delivered on time, quality and budget. A key focus during the work has also been to improve execution models and to adapt for new types of jobs. As a result, future platform jackets for oil and gas and for renewable energy production can be delivered at a lower cost and with increased competitiveness.

CGG Awarded Equinor OBN Imaging Contract in Brazil

CGG has been awarded a major contract by Equinor for the seismic imaging of its Bacalhau 3D ocean bottom node (OBN) survey covering 409 sq km currently being acquired in Brazil’s deepwater Santos Basin. Final products for the fully imaged dataset are expected to be delivered within ten months after the survey is scheduled to complete in May 2021.
