ROV Issues Impact IOG's Southwark Drilling Operations

The first Southwark development well was expected to spud by the weekend of 18-19 December, following the repair of the Noble Hans Deul rig. Having initially anticipated a minor delay, owing to repeated technical issues with the underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), it has not yet been possible to safely spud the well.

New $53 Million Grant to Create a World-Wide Fleet of Robotic Floats to Monitor Ocean Health

On October 29, 2020 the National Science Foundation (NSF) approved a $53 million grant to a consortium of the country’s top ocean-research institutions to build a global network of chemical and biological sensors that will monitor ocean health. Scientists at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), University of Washington, Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and Princeton University will use this grant to build and deploy 500 robotic ocean-monitoring floats around the globe.

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has published ‘ADCI/IOGP/IMCA Diving Terms’ as IMCA D 057. “This invaluable document has been prepared as a joint industry project (JIP) involving representatives from IMCA, the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI) in the United States, and the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) Diving Industry Work Group (DIWG),” explains Richard Benzie.

National Oceanography Centre: A Year of Discovery – unlocking the secrets of the shelf seas

The Royal Research Ship Discovery has completed her first year of research. Over a series of nine research expeditions, scientists studied the seasonal events taking place in UK shelf waters throughout the year. The vessel, procured by the Natural Environment Research Council for UK science is the latest in marine technology.

In essence, upwards of 20 representatives from the O&G will be attending their meeting and the different presentations and exhibitions at the show. Some of the operators that will be in attendance are TOTAL, Shell, ENI, Petronas, Petrobras, Exxon Mobil, Statoil, Chevron, Conoco Phillips, DONG Energy, Qatar Petroleum, and Premier Oil, BP, as well as other IOGP invited operators in the Gulf region.
