Deep Trekker is donating a DTG3 ROV to Ghost Diving Foundation and matching customer donations up to $5,000 for Plastic Oceans.

In honour of their 10th anniversary, leading Canadian submersible robotics company Deep Trekker is donating to two exceptional organizations working to better the health and cleanliness of the world’s oceans and lakes.

“From our humble garage beginnings to sales in over 80 countries the last 10 years at Deep Trekker have been full of growth and constant innovation,” said Deep Trekker President Sam Macdonald. “What better way to celebrate our underwater successes than to give back to organizations who are helping keep our lakes and oceans healthy.”

Ghost Diving Foundation is a registered charity organization of volunteer technical divers specialized in the removal of ghost fishing gear and other marine debris. Lost, abandoned or otherwise discarded fishing gear continues to trap and entangle wildlife leading to the unnecessary deaths of marine life.

“We are thrilled to donate a DTG3 ROV to Ghost Diving Foundation. With the DTG3, Ghost Diving will have a tool that allows them to remove lost and discarded fishing gear quickly and conveniently while keeping their divers safe in treacherous conditions,” shared Macdonald.

"With Ghost Diving we have set a worldwide standard in lost fishing gear cleanups with the help of divers and we will always continue to innovate and keep a close eye on developments around us to help us with our cause. Since Deep Trekker conducted the first tests with the DTG3, we have already seen opportunities to apply this invention in our surveys and even projects in difficult places where diving is not possible or prohibited. With this donation we get the opportunity to put this into practice and we cannot wait to start," shared Ghost Diving Foundation founder Pascal van Erp.

To further celebrate a successful 10 years, Deep Trekker is encouraging all of their customers to donate to Plastic Ocean’s Canadian Coastline campaign though Deep Trekker’s GoFundMe page, with every $25 dollars donated enabling the cleaning of 1km of Canadian coastline. Deep Trekker is matching donations made up to $5,000 total in support of Plastic Oceans.

“Plastic Oceans is dedicated to ending plastic pollution in our oceans and lakes. We are encouraging our customers and supporters to donate to support the Canadian Coastline campaign on our GoFundMe page. We are thrilled to match donations up to $5,000,” said Macdonald.

“Deep Trekker’s commitment to the oceans is astounding. We couldn’t be happier to be offered the support of a Canadian owned marine based company. Celebrating their 10 year anniversary by sponsoring 200 kilometres of coastline directly and prompting their network to match this on our home shores,“ shared Adrian Midwood, Executive Director of Plastic Oceans Canada. “Deep Trekker’s matching donation campaign is essential in supporting our efforts. Their commitment alone will support the clean-up of 200 km at the very minimum of Canadian shores.”
