26.04.2016
Technical Program Chairmen for the MTS/IEEE OCEANS'16 Conference, to be held in Monterey, California, 19-23 September 2016.

OCEANS'16 will be a tremendous opportunity to focus on topics of interest to you in all fields of Marine Technology and Ocean Engineering. We are trying to develop a Technical Program that will appeal to the significant interests. The conference will feature:

Over 500 professionally reviewed technical papers, including sessions focused on local themes.
Plenary sessions with leaders from industry, academia, the military and government.
100-200 exhibitors showcasing the latest innovations in products and services.
A student poster session featuring outstanding projects from around the world.
Tutorials, workshops, demonstrations, government listening sessions, social/networking opportunities, professional field trips ...and much, much more!

We will continue to accept abstracts until our extended deadline, Sunday, May 8, 2016.

Abstracts may be submitted in one of three categories:

Regular Technical Program: Abstract submitted for review, technical paper presentation in technical or poster session at the conference, and publication in IEEE Xplore.

Student Poster Competition: Abstract, paper, poster presentation, and publications on in IEEE Xplore. Open to any full-time student in an accredited program. Selected applicants, based on abstract reviews, will have travel and registration expenses subsidized.

Special Sessions (Workshops and Panels): Abstract and presentation, no publication. Participation is at the discretion of the Technical Program Committee

Abstract submissions will close in April and we will be developing the full technical program in the coming months. I hope you are planning to attend the meeting, and I hope you will submit a paper of interest to the MTS/IEEE OES community. In addition to the standard conference topics, the OCEANS'16 Local Organizing Committee has selected several topics of local interest - all may be seen here:

I also hope you will consider taking a leadership role in the Technical Program. Please consider one or more of the following activities:

Organizing a Technical Session or Track. Please consider 'championing' a particular topic of interest to you and your colleagues, and coordinating multiple submissions into a Session or Track. Sessions are approximately 90 minutes, consisting of presentations of submitted, peer-reviewed papers. However, you are welcome to work with the Technical Program Committee to have a format that might include longer featured talks, or shorter presentations with a panel discussion. Common sessions may be organized into an announced Technical Track.

Organizing a Workshop or Tutorial. Proposals are welcome, and the Technical Program Committee will work with you to accommodate your needs. Please contact us directly at TechnicalChair@oceans16mtsieeemonterey.org.

Proposals for other less 'traditional' activities are welcome as well. We have listed demonstrations, government listening sessions, social/networking opportunities, and professional field trips on the Call for Abstracts; feel free to suggest these and other activities that you would like to see (and help organize!).

Of course, PLEASE make sure we know your availability to be a Session Chair and Abstract reviewer.

On behalf of the entire Local Organizing Committee we look forward to working with you to make this a successful and memorable event. See you in September!

Best regards,

Jeff Paduan and Doug Au
