RWE Appoints Fugro to Start Geophysical Survey for Denmark’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm, Thor

RWE has appointed Fugro to complete a geophysical survey off the Danish west coast. Up to three survey vessels will be deployed to carry out a detailed pre-construction survey including a search for unexploded ordnance (UXO) up to approximately 34 kilometres off the coast of Thorsminde. The data acquired is important and will define the cable routes and exact turbine locations for RWE’s Thor offshore wind farm.

Maxwell Marine Wins Contract to Supply Anchoring System for First USVs

Maxwell Marine, the anchoring solutions specialist, has been contracted to design and supply a technical anchoring system for the first uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) which will be used for offshore met-ocean measurement campaigns in the wind farm industry. Ten of the vessels will be built by the Tuco Marine Group in Denmark for the world leading offshore wind farm developer, Ørsted.

Ørsted, the world's leading developer of offshore wind farms, has designed and developed the first uncrewed surface vessel (USV) in the industry for offshore met-ocean measurement campaigns. The measurement data will help lower uncertainties in the expected annual energy production for new offshore wind farms. Ørsted, who has patented the USV concept, sees enormous potential in the technology and has initiated a serial production based on their successful prototype USV.

Fugro’s Geo-data Supports the Development of Denmark’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm

Fugro has begun geotechnical site investigations at RWE’s Thor offshore wind farm development. The collected Geo-data will be used to inform the design, fabrication and installation of the main wind farm components including turbine foundation, inter-array and export cables. With a planned capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MW) Thor will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm to date, producing enough green electricity to supply the equivalent of more than one million Danish households.

Fugro Secures Cable Route Survey Contract for Denmark’s Energy Islands

Fugro has secured a new contract with Energinet to undertake cable route surveys for the North Sea Energy Island project. The Energy Island will serve as an offshore power plant distributing up to 10 GW of offshore wind to Denmark and other neighbouring markets. Fugro will perform a combination of geophysical, geotechnical services and laboratory testing to provide valuable insight into the ground engineering challenges along the cable route from the Danish landfalls to the future artificial island location.

Boskalis and CIP Partner to Develop Danish Energy Island Project

Boskalis has signed a partnership agreement with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), a leading global fund manager focused on renewable energy investments, together with three internationally renowned companies, to bid for the development of the energy island in the Danish North Sea. The signing of this agreement marks a significant step towards realising the world's first energy island, a project conceptualised by CIP and a crucial project in unlocking the rapid and unprecedented build-out of global offshore renewable energy to fight climate change. The Danish Energy Agency is currently in dialogue with potential bidders for the energy island tender, which is expected to be launched by Q3 2022.

Fugro Wins Two Energinet site Investigation Contracts for Denmark’s Energy Island

Fugro has secured two geotechnical site investigation contracts with Energinet for Denmark’s proposed Energy Island project. A global first, this purpose-built artificial island will be situated 80 km offshore in the North Sea and act as a hub connecting hundreds of surrounding wind turbines. Fugro will perform the preliminary geotechnical site investigation for the Energy Island and the adjacent offshore wind farm zone. The resulting Geo-data will be used to prepare an integrated geological and geotechnical soil model on which wind farm developers will base future tenders.

Maersk Drilling Named Preferred Contractor for the Greensand Danish Offshore Carbon Storage Project

In extension of its commitment to participating in Phase 2 of the Greensand offshore carbon storage project, Maersk Drilling has entered a framework agreement with the Nini Joint Venture, operated by INEOS Oil & Gas Denmark and Wintershall Dea, covering the supply of drilling rigs for the project offshore Denmark. The agreement confirms Maersk Drilling as the preferred contractor with a right to all drilling rig work involved in Project Greensand on market-rate terms until the end of 2027. The agreement is subject to the project obtaining the necessary funding and final investment decision.
